Prospectors armed with lanterns, shovels, picks and gold pans came by the thousands to find their fortunes. At night the valleys twinkled with campfires, and by day the armies hacked at the ledges and dug up the streambeds in hopes of that mother lode strike. It was a wet, cold job wading in the snow, water and working in the canyons that seldom saw sunlight. For most of the prospectors fortune was not in the cards. Hard work and hearty appetites were their by-products. We hope you enjoy your nostalgic step back into the century of the mother lode. Who knows, your fortune could be awaiting you.
